Noticia en Español: Los Abogados de Von Wobeser y Sierra Firman el Compromiso Anticorrupción

Dear Clients and Friends,

Reinforcing Von Wobeser y Sierra’s (“VWyS”) commitment to the Judicial Integrity Initiative (“JII”) launched by the International Bar Association (“IBA”) President David W. Rivkin, we announce to our Firm’s friends and clients that VWyS’ attorneys have signed the IBA Anticorruption Compact.

On August 29th, 2016 the Mexican Supreme Court Chief Justice Luis María Aguila Morales, together with the IBA President David W. Rivkin and the Presidents of the three main Mexican Bar Associations, Ricardo Ríos Ferrer (Barra Mexicana de Abogados), Ricardo Cervantes Vargas (Asosiación Nacional de Abogados de Empresa) and Alfonso Pérez-Cuellar Martínez (Ilustre y Nacional Colegio de Abogados de México) all signed the Anticorruption Compact in a ceremony hosted by the Mexican Chief Justice at the Mexican Supreme Court.  Several other high officers from the Supreme Court participated in the ceremony; for example, VWyS Of Counsel and former Chief Justice Guillermo Ortiz Mayagoitia, who has been instrumental in Mexico’s key participation in the JII.

Furthermore, VWyS Partner Diego Sierra, who heads the Anticorruption practice of our Firm and is the Rapporteur for the IBA JII, was also part of the ceremony.  Claus von Wobeser participated as representative of the Mexican Bar Association in the IBA.

By signing the Anticorruption Compact, its signatories assumed several commitments to fight corruption in the judiciary.  For example, each Anticorruption Compact signatory assumes the commitment of not to tolerate corrupt practices such as bribery and undue influence in the judicial process, not to undermine judicial independence and the commitment to report to the competent authorities any type of breach to the Anticorruption Compact commitments.
